I’m very excited to share the news that for the 3rd straight year I’ve not only had an image recognized by the Artistic Guild of the Wedding Photojournalist Association but in the most recent photo contest I placed two images in the top 10.
Getting even a single image ranked in the top 20 for a category is a huge accomplishment considering the thousands of entries from amazing wedding photojournalists all over the world.
Placing 5th in the ceremony category was this wonderful image from Allie and Logan’s wedding at the Sanctuary.
This one means a lot to me to be recognized since just about any professional wedding photographer who has shot at The Sanctuary Golf Course knows just how challenging this venue can be to shoot in with the backlighting at the ceremony site. This is not the site to be trusting your photos to someone just getting started in the business or a family friend who is pretty good with a camera. You’ll be lucky if they figure out how to deal with the extreme lighting issues before your wedding is over with. To have a ceremony image be ranked in 5th place for this venue is a wonderful honor.
The image that placed 8th in the Reception category was one of my favorite captures of the year from Angie and Jason’s wedding.
The look on the flower girls face is so wonderful and she obviously had no idea that the cake sharing can turn into a mini food fight from time to time. I think the “cake smash” must be an american thing since the judge of a international photo contest doesn’t seem to understand it either – although recognizes the shocked girl to the side making this such a wonderful image.
