Wagon Trails – DFL Raises almost 90,000 for the animals

A few weekends back I volunteered my time to work a photo station for the Dumb Friends League Wagon Trails fund raising event to benefit their Castle Rock shelter, The Buddy Center.  Looks like they raised almost $90,000 for the day so it was definitely a great way to spend the day.

They had three photo stations setup on the trail, one of the others was manned by my good friend and fellow photographer Dain from Photography by Dain.

Down in the vendor area was another good friend, and who I think is one of Colorados best pet photographers, Jaime Rowe.

Here’s a few shots from my station:

Miscellaneous Mondays – Wagon Trails event for the Dumb Friends League

Set the date aside, Saturday September 19th from 8am to noon is the Wag’n Trail 2009 event benefiting the Dumb Friends League Buddy Center located in Castle Rock.

The event will be at the Glendale Farm Open Space, I-25 and Surrey Ridge.

There will be photo spots along the trail to get a picture of you and your pet, free if you raise a minimum of $75 in pledges.   At least two of the booths are going to be manned by some wonderful local wedding photographers, hey I’m wonderful, no really I am.    I, along with my friend and often parter Dain of Photography by Dain, will be running two of the photo spots.

Now if the idea of getting a free picture done with you and your pet by either myself or my buddy Dain isn’t enough to get you out there, Denver’s hottest modern pet photographer, Jaime Rowe will be having a booth out there in the merchants area.

If you’re a regular reader you’ll remember that I hooked Jaime up with the League for the recent cat fest.    Well this time you get to see more of her work.

So come on out, support and awesome cause, and either get a free portrait or meet with Jaime for a future session.   It’s a great way to spend a Saturday morning in Colorado.

Catfest – Help Support the Dumb Friends League animal shelter with photographer Jaime Rowe

Most people know I spent 15 years working for the largest (and in my opinion one of the absolute best) animal welfare organizations in the rocky mountain region, the Dumb Friends League. After 15 years the place is more family than just a former employer and love to help them out whenever they ask.

So it was with no little disappointment that when they asked if I would be  setting up a booth on their Catfest event on July 11th and I had to decline. Being a wedding photographer here in Colorado summer Saturdays are more often than not booked with a wedding, and this was the case.

So not being able to attend I opted for the next best thing, and that was putting them in touch with whom I think is one of the best pet photographers I’ve ever met, Jaime Rowe.

Jaime isn’t one to photograph your loved pet like you’ve seen at certain “pet supermarkets” on their photography days where they setup a mini-set and then production line the dogs and cats.   While these “production lines” do a fair job of documenting what your pet looks like, that’s about it.   Jaime Rowe’s photography is focused on capturing your pets “purr-sonality”.   OK, I’m sorry for that pun, I did mention 15 years at a shelter right?

Described as a modern pet photographer I think of what she does as lifestyle pet photography.   She doesn’t put your pet in a “mini set” where  she can capture their looks, but rather works with them (and you) on location to capture the personality of your dog or cat, that part of them that makes them a part of your family.

I’m told that if you book one of Jaime’s “Close to Home Packages” during this event 5% of the proceeds goes to the Dumb Friends League.

So go check out Jaime’s blog http://jaimerowephotography.blogspot.com/ and website http://www.jaimerowephotography.com/ and I have no doubt you’ll see just what a gifted artist Jaime is.   Then head on down to the League and support the animals by indulging in some outstanding photography.

In the community, Lonetree Elementary and Furry Scurry

It was a busy weekend, but not with weddings or portraits as you’d normally expect, but instead at a pair of huge fundraisers.

The first was at an event on Friday night, the “Sunset Soiree” to benefit Lonetree elementary in funding their 2009/2010 projects for “Micro-Society”, science kits and other new technology that couldn’t be funded through the school district.   I thought it would be a small casual event but to the benefit of the fundraiser I was greatly mistaken.

The silent auction along with cocktails kicked off the event, followed by dinner and a live auction.

Then of course this last saturday was the Furry Scurry out in Washington Park to benefit the Dumb Friends League

I didn’t get a chance to grab too many pictures of the event this year, we did something a little different and setup a booth.   Despite the cold and damp weather it was amazing to see the immense crowd turn out to support the League and raise over $865,000 for the care of homeless pets.

Thanks to all those people who swung by the booth to say hi.
