Wedding Season 2009 The 2009 wedding season has begun and looks to be a wonderful year despite the overall economy. While our clients’ wedding budgets are tighter, we’ve been able to tailor packages to suit our clients’ exact needs so they’re only paying for what they want. While dates are booking nicely we still have at least one opening each month for the rest of the year so your referrals are always welcome. If we are already booked on that day we have a referral list of some of the best wedding photographers in the state of all budget levels. Anytime Sessions With the focus on weddings in 2009 there’s been a few changes to our portrait offerings. While we still do single, family, senior and pet portraits we’re now calling these sessions, “Anytime Sessions” and treating them in much the same way we would an engagement session in that the goal is to capture this time in the subjects life and not just some pictures on a boring background. The two levels of these sessions differ in the length of the session and the selection of final images. The session fees include a memory book and the ability to purchase prints at greatly reduced prices. Most clients have a set amount to spend on prints so our approach is to have them be able to get a large selection of prints instead of one or two for the same amount. Check out the portrait information page on the blog for more details. New Edition to the Family There’s a new edition to the family you might have seen if you saw us at Furry Scurry, Porthos. He’s a six month old Bichon Frise (or bichin frizzy as I like to call him) . A great little guy who often hangs out at the studio with me. We’ve just finished “puppy pre-school” and will be starting obedience classes soon. Classes at the MHP Studio Since the bulk of my work this year has been outside of the studio I’ve been looking for someone to share the space with. It’s just a shame to have 1800 sqft or shooting and meeting space sitting empty most of the time. I’m happy to announce we found the perfect match with Illuminate Photography Workshops. Director Efrain Cruz has put together a great team of instructors covering everything from Digital 101 beginners classes to advanced photoshop. Since most the classes take place outside of my normal studio time it’s been a perfect fit so far and I hope you’ll take a look at their class offerings for your own photography education. Changing Seasons

It is truly a season of change upon us.  A changing political landscape.  The changing of the trees.  Summer is behind us and the winter holidays loom on the near horizon. 

It’s also been a time of change with Mark Hayes Photography.  Much of this last year has been spent exploring all the business options, and my different passions in photography.   It’s been a great time to do a little bit of everything, but there are also some decisions that have been made about the focus and direction of the business as well.

What has been good for the business as well as personally rewarding is the renewed focus on wedding photography this year and I expect that to be the primary focus of business for next year.  

That doesn’t mean the portrait work is going away. If anything I hope to expand some of the offerings in this area in 2009 as well, although I anticipate restructuring the focus to more personally crafted sessions as done with the senior sessions.  

Stock work will continue to be a subject to expand in-between major projects.  If anything, with the current economy as companies are tightening budgets, even their advertising budgets, inexpensive stock photography could likely go up in demand.  

And of course I still plan on doing various side projects.  Wether it be for my favorite non profit, the Dumb Friends League, or the Roseina Hester Transplant Fund , fashion projects for local designers, or those creative shoots with friends and family. 

More than anything I guess I’ve learned this last year photography isn’t just how I try and make a living, but in a large way it’s a part of who I’ve become and how I relate to the world around me.

Holiday Gifts & Memories

This is a great time of year for family photos.

When times are tight photos can make great gifts to the family. (and our printing partner offers 2 for 1 prints)

And as families grow older having the kids home from school is a perfect time to capture those photos.  

Personalized holiday cards are another great option.  Even more so if you have a small business – a great way to re-connect with your clients.
